Samburu Tribe Throughout this region, local Samburu tribes’ people can be seen wearing their traditional dress and ornate jewelry. Samburu National Reserve This reserve covers an area of 104km² and lies in the fascinating semi-desert northern frontier area of Kenya. Samburu is famous for its reticulated giraffe, Grevy’s zebra and long-necked gerenuk, which are quite commonly spotted here, though rarely in the southern parks. Lion and leopards live in the reserve but are not always seen. Crocodiles are often seen in the Ewaso Nyiro River that flows through the park.

This beautiful tented camp lies in the heart of the private, 24,000-acre Sweet waters Game Reserve. Built in the early 70’s, the main building was originally the residence of billionaire Adnan Kashoggi’s ranch manager. The 30 luxuriously appointed en-suite tents have magnificent views across the plains to the snow-capped peaks of Mount Kenya. Located in typical savannah grasslands, punctuated by the ‘whistling thorn’ shrubs and acacia trees, Sweet water really is an oasis. It offers guests the indulgence of a swimming pool, some of the finest tented accommodation in Kenya and personalized service and attention. Sweet waters home to the only chimpanzee sanctuary in Kenya. Most of the chimps came from the Jane Good all Institutes in Burundi and the Sweet waters Chimpanzee Sanctuary now cares for them and is a non-profit making venture. Most of the chimps were rescued from the most appalling conditions and it is truly heart-warming to see them.
